Adopt a Beagle (short coat)

Hi, my name is Ellie and I'm about 8 years old.  I was rescued by Bond County Humane Society from a high kill shelter in Southern Illinois.  When I was transferred to BCHS it was thought that I was pregnant and going to deliver at any time.  After 3 weeks x-rays were taken to only find out I was not pregnant.   My diagnosis is called atypical Cushings Disease.  That means I have the symptoms, but I don't have Cushings so I am not a candidate to take the medication prescribed for Cushings.  I am on a treatment plan of Flaxseed oil, Melatonin and Fish Oil.  After 3 weeks my coat is returning and I don't pant as bad as I did.  I still act like I am  ravenous and drink a lot of water.  An ultrasound has been done.  The findings showed my liver and spleen are enlarged and I am older than originally thought.  The vet has diagnosed me with adrenal abnormality.  This can be caused by a tumor, but surgery for this condition is not recommended because of high incidence of post operative complications and high percentage of deaths during surgery.  Since my arrival I have lost 5 pounds because of daily exercise and recommended food portions which has improved my overall appearance.  My original urinary problems and skin infection have been resolved with antibiotics.   I will always have a distended stomach because of my condition.   I will be on my current treatment plan for life.  I love to be with people.  I am indifferent to other dogs.  I don't really play with toys or other dogs.  I like to roll in the grass and and have my belly rubbed.  I am good with all dogs, small or large.  I am very easy going.  I will "Sit" for a treat.  I love to go for walks and follow a scent.  My ideal home will have a fenced yard.  I am probably housetrained, but might need a little help at first.  I am available for immediate adoption.  I am spayed, UTD on vaccinations, heartworm tested, treated for internal and external parasites and microchipped.  Through a grant from Petfinder Foundation my adoption fee has been waived and the cost of my current medication treatment plan will be covered for a year.  If you are interested in making me a member of your family please complete an Adoption Profile in person or on-line at www.bondcohs.petfinder.com.  Email the completed profile to the address provided.   A copy of our policy regarding warranties, refunds and returns is available upon request.
